37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday 08.00-16.00 (7.5 hours per day plus 30 minutes lunch).

Role involves participating in an on call rota

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Building Team Leader to join our Estates and Facilities team at Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell.

As the Building Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading a team of building trade staff in delivering high-quality repair, maintenance, and minor works across our facilities. This role is essential to maintaining a safe, functional, and therapeutic environment for our service users, staff, and visitors.

Main Responsibilities

* Lead a team of multi-skilled building operatives, managing day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and small-scale construction projects.

* Plan and coordinate preventative and reactive maintenance of building fabric, finishes, fixtures, and fittings.

* Ensure all works are carried out in compliance with NHS regulations, health & safety standards, and statutory building codes.

* Work closely with Estates Officers, clinical teams, and contractors to minimise disruption to services.

* Maintain accurate records using the Trust’s CAFM system and contribute to reports, audits, and inspections.

* Support compliance with fire safety, security, and infection control requirements related to the built environment.

* Supervise contractors and monitor the quality and safety of work delivered.

* Participate in the on-call rota and respond to emergency situations as required.

What We’re Looking For

* A qualified building tradesperson (e.g. NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent) in carpentry, plastering, brickwork, or general building maintenance.

* Demonstrable experience supervising or leading a small team in a facilities or estates management setting.

* Strong working knowledge of building maintenance systems, health & safety legislation, and construction best practices.

* Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands.

* Experience working in healthcare, public sector, or a similar complex environment is desirable.

* This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience.
