Salary: £12.85 per hour
Hours: Split shift – typically 7:00–9:30am and 2:30–5:00pm (hours may vary depending on route)

Contract Type: Temporary / Part-time
Reporting to: Passenger Travel Service Manager
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and reliable Passenger Assistant to join the Kirklees Council Passenger Travel Service.
This service provides safe, reliable transport for over 1,000 pre-16 children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to schools across Kirklees and beyond.
Your role will be much more than simply escorting passengers from A to B — you’ll help create a safe, comfortable, and positive travel experience, making a real difference to the lives of our passengers and their families.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist children and young adults with SEND on their journey to and from school or college.
* Attend to passengers’ personal, physical, and medical needs during transport.
* Support drivers with passenger care and boarding assistance.
* Monitor vehicle cleanliness, safety, and condition, reporting any issues to the Transport Office.
* Communicate effectively with parents, carers, transport officers, schools, and colleges.
* Be flexible and willing to work on any route within Kirklees, with possible changes at short notice.
* Travel to a pickup point to meet the vehicle when required (no mileage/travel costs reimbursed).
* Participate in any training provided by the Council.
Requirements
* Enhanced DBS Check with both Adult and Children’s Barred List clearance (arranged by the Council if not already held).
* Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, working with children and young people with SEND.
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work split shifts.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Hours & Working Pattern
* Typical shifts: 7:00–9:30am and 2:30–5:00pm.
* Hours may vary depending on the assigned route.
